Neurable is licensing its non-invasive brain-computer interface technology to consumer wearable makers, the company announced Tuesday, four months after closing a $35M Series A in December. The pitch to OEMs: drop Neurable's EEG sensors and AI signal-processing stack into headphones, hats, glasses, and headbands without redesigning the hardware around it. CEO Ramses Alcaide says the goal is to make brain sensing as ubiquitous as the heart rate sensor on a wrist.
The licensing platform lets hardware partners keep full control over product design, user experience, and distribution while Neurable supplies the brain-reading layer underneath. That is a sharp turn from the company's earlier strategy of co-developing single bespoke products. The $35M raised in December is funding the build-out.
Neurable's distinguishing bet is that it does not require brain surgery. Where Elon Musk's Neuralink implants chips directly into the skull, Neurable reads brain activity through external EEG sensors and runs the signal through AI models that score cognitive performance and focus. The trade-off is resolution for accessibility — and for a market large enough to support a consumer business.

The company has already shipped reference designs with named partners. With HP Inc.'s HyperX gaming brand, Neurable built a headset pitched at gamers looking to "level up their game play by optimizing focus and performance." It also partnered with iMotions, a research software platform, on human-behavior studies. Alcaide declined to name new partners in the pipeline.

"In the past, we were very specific about our partnerships," Alcaide told TechCrunch, describing a phase focused on proving individual commercial use cases. "What we're doing now is we're basically saying, like, 'Hey, we've demonstrated that we're getting great traction'. Like, let's make this as ubiquitous as heart rate sensors on your wrist, right?"
The categories Neurable is targeting span health and athletic products, productivity tools, and gaming. Each comes with its own integration path — a focus tracker in a gaming headset is a different product than a fatigue monitor in a worker's hard hat or a meditation aid in a pair of glasses. Licensing rather than building each device gives Neurable distribution leverage without the capex of a hardware company.
Privacy is the obvious friction point. Brain data is more intimate than heart rate data, and a licensing model means Neurable's sensors will end up in products built and branded by other companies. Alcaide says the company encrypts and anonymizes user data, and follows HIPAA standards — "above and beyond where a lot of startups would be at our stage," in his words.
On AI training, Alcaide drew a careful line. Neurable can use neural data to train its models, but only with user consent and only for specific experiments. "We are not collecting the data, just training on it willy nilly," he said. How that policy survives contact with dozens of OEM partners — each with their own apps, terms, and data practices — is the question the licensing model raises but does not yet answer.
The competitive picture cuts both ways. Neuralink and other invasive BCI players are chasing medical-grade applications where surgical risk is justified by the payoff. Neurable is chasing the much larger consumer market where no one will accept a craniotomy to track focus during a workout. The risk is that consumer EEG produces signals too noisy to deliver features people pay for.
Alcaide frames the moment as an "inflection point" — the first time, in his telling, that there is "a real business model in neuro-technology that is scalable." That claim will be tested by whether OEMs actually ship licensed products and whether consumers buy them at meaningful volumes. A $35M Series A buys runway, not adoption.
Neurable's bet is that brain sensing follows the same arc as the optical heart rate sensor — exotic medical kit one decade, default smartwatch feature the next. If the licensing flywheel works, the company becomes the Dolby of neural data: invisible inside other people's products, paid per unit. If it doesn't, Neurable is a sensor vendor in a category that consumers never quite warm to, competing for shelf space with every other wellness gadget making focus claims.
