Deezer says AI-generated tracks now exceed 50% of daily uploads

AI-generated music now accounts for more than 50% of all daily track uploads on Deezer, the French streaming company said on July 21, with volume peaking at a monthly average of 90,000 AI tracks per day in June 2026. Deezer will begin delisting AI tracks that go unstreamed for six months or are linked to fraudulent streaming. The move makes Deezer the most aggressive major streamer on synthetic music policy to date.

The growth curve is steep. Deezer's own tracking pegged AI uploads at 10,000 tracks per day, or 10% of daily volume, in January 2025. That figure rose to 18% in April 2025, 28% in September 2025, and 34% by November 2025. The trajectory then accelerated: 39% in January 2026, 44% in April 2026, and past the halfway mark by June.

In absolute terms, AI uploads have gone from 10,000 to 90,000 tracks per day in eighteen months — a 9x increase against a roughly 2x rise in total daily uploads. The bulk of new supply on the platform is now machine-generated.

Key facts

  • 01Deezer says AI-generated tracks now exceed 50% of daily uploads, peaking at 90,000 tracks per day in June 2026.
  • 02The share has climbed from 10% (10,000 tracks/day) in January 2025 to 44% (75,000 tracks/day) in April 2026.
  • 03Deezer will remove AI tracks that go unstreamed for six months or are tied to fraudulent streaming activity.
  • 04Its detection tech flags output from Suno and Udio, the two AI-music startups facing major label copyright suits.
  • 05Deezer opened its detection tool to other platforms earlier in 2026 and released a scanner for Apple Music and Spotify playlists last month.

Deezer's detection stack can identify output from Suno and Udio, the two AI-music startups currently defending copyright suits from the major labels. Deezer began labeling AI music on the platform in 2025 and opened its detection tool to other platforms earlier this year, though it has not disclosed which — if any — competitors have adopted it.

Now that half of all daily uploads are AI-generated tracks, we are taking additional steps to safeguard the rights of artists and songwriters, while maintaining focus on music that fans actually love.
Alexis Lanternier, Deezer CEO

The rest of the streaming industry has fractured on how to respond. Bandcamp bans AI-generated tracks outright. Tidal has cut off monetization for them. Apple Music runs a voluntary AI-tagging system, and Spotify has published a policy on how much AI involvement is permissible in a release. There is no shared standard on disclosure, payout eligibility, or catalog inclusion.

The economic issue is payout dilution. Streaming royalty pools are finite, and every play of a synthetic track is a play not going to a human artist. When 90,000 new AI tracks land per day, even small amounts of low-volume streaming — often driven by bot farms designed to game per-stream payouts — siphon meaningful revenue away from catalog rights holders. Deezer's six-month unstreamed-track rule is a direct attempt to shrink the long tail of AI content that exists purely to skim from the pool.

Deezer also released a tool last month that scans Apple Music and Spotify playlists for AI-generated tracks. That expands the company's positioning from platform-level enforcement to something closer to an industry-wide detection service — a notable pivot for a streamer that competes at a fraction of Spotify's scale.

The unresolved question is how quickly detection tech can keep up with generative models. Suno and Udio are actively training new versions, and the signatures Deezer's classifier depends on today may erode as output quality improves. The company hasn't disclosed detection accuracy rates or how it plans to handle hybrid tracks — human vocals over AI-generated instrumentation, for example — which are already appearing on the platform. It also hasn't said whether AI tracks that meet the six-month streaming threshold will be treated identically to human-made music in the royalty pool.

Deezer's numbers are the clearest public signal yet of what the AI music flood actually looks like at platform scale. If the trajectory holds, AI uploads will cross 70% of daily volume before the end of 2026, and every major streamer will face the same question Deezer has now answered publicly: whether the platform is a neutral catalog or a curated one. Spotify and Apple Music have so far chosen ambiguity. That posture becomes harder to sustain when half of everything arriving each day was generated by a model rather than a musician, and when the payout math starts showing up in artist statements.
