Anthropic plans to sell up to 552.9 billion yen, or about $3.5 billion, of shares to investors in Japan as part of its US initial public offering, according to a filing disclosed on Monday.

The filing says the new shares issued to Japanese investors will go toward working capital, operating expenses and capital expenditure. It did not give the total size of the IPO or a valuation for the company. Some investors have discussed a valuation of about $1.5 trillion, according to earlier reporting.

For scale, Japanese investors secured $2.2 billion of the $75 billion raised in SpaceX's June IPO, the largest public offering on record. Anthropic's Japan ceiling is about 1.6 times that amount.
