Foxconn is working on a new partnership with OpenAI, chairman Young Liu said on Friday at the company's annual Hon Hai Tech Day in Taipei. Liu said he met OpenAI CEO Sam Altman earlier the same day in Taiwan, and that Foxconn will announce the agreement once the details are confirmed.

Liu did not describe the scope, size or timing of the new arrangement. OpenAI has not commented on the talks.

Any new agreement would extend a deal the two companies announced in November 2025 to co-design several generations of AI data center racks. Under that arrangement, Foxconn planned to manufacture components in the United States, including cables, cooling systems and power equipment.

Key facts

  • 01Foxconn chairman Young Liu said on October 30, 2026 that a new collaboration with OpenAI is in the works.
  • 02Liu met OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in Taipei the same day and said details will come once terms are confirmed.
  • 03The talks build on a November 2025 deal to co-design multiple generations of AI data center racks.
  • 04Foxconn expects double-digit growth next year; AI servers and networking were 51% of Q2 revenue.

The 2025 deal carried no purchase commitments from OpenAI. Instead, OpenAI received early access to evaluate the hardware and an option to buy it.

Liu also rejected the idea that the AI industry is in a bubble, as technology stocks have pulled back on investor questions about whether AI infrastructure spending can keep pace with rising borrowing costs. He said Foxconn expects double-digit growth next year.

AI hardware now drives the majority of Foxconn's business. The company, formally Hon Hai Precision Industry, is the world's largest contract electronics maker and Nvidia's largest AI server manufacturer. In August, Foxconn said its cloud and networking segment, which includes AI servers, made up 51% of second-quarter revenue, the first time it crossed the halfway mark.

Foxconn runs six factory buildings in Houston, Texas, that build AI servers for Nvidia, and Liu said further expansion there is needed.

The company is also putting AI to work inside those plants. Brand Cheng, chairman of Foxconn Industrial Internet, said more than 10 humanoid robots are deployed at Foxconn's Texas facilities for internal use, with plans to expand beyond Texas. The unit is developing AI models for humanoid robots based on Nvidia's GR00T foundation model.
