Uber is rolling out ChatGPT Work, OpenAI's agent for multi-step office tasks, to more than 30,000 employees across its global workforce. OpenAI announced the company-wide deployment on Thursday, saying access starts immediately and expands a pilot that included 1,000 Uber staff.
ChatGPT Work runs inside ChatGPT Enterprise and is built to take on multi-step projects and return finished work. OpenAI describes it as Uber's first company-wide agentic platform for knowledge work. OpenAI began rolling out ChatGPT Work on July 9.
At Uber, the agent connects to Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar and Slack. Employees will use it to research information, prepare meeting briefs, build presentations, analyze data and complete workflows that span several applications.
Key facts
- 01Uber began rolling out ChatGPT Work to more than 30,000 employees worldwide on October 22, 2026.
- 02The rollout expands a pilot that included 1,000 Uber employees.
- 03GPT-6.1 Sol is the default model, chosen to balance frontier performance with cost efficiency.
- 04ChatGPT Work connects to Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar and Slack at Uber.
- 05Uber's developers and software engineers will keep using OpenAI's Codex for coding work.
GPT-6.1 Sol is the default model for the deployment, a choice OpenAI said balances frontier performance with cost efficiency. Uber staff also get access to OpenAI's wider portfolio of frontier models plus multimodal features, including voice and image generation, so teams can pick the model and tools that fit a given job.
Uber is pairing the rollout with an internal AI skills library, a set of approved integrations and dedicated employee training, aimed at operations, finance, marketing and product teams. Uber's developers and software engineers will continue to use Codex, OpenAI's coding tool, for software development.
Praveen Neppalli Naga, Uber's chief technology officer, framed the deployment as a way to put AI tools in every employee's hands and called the company-wide rollout a step toward that goal.
“As AI transforms how we work, we want to give everyone the tools to innovate, solve problems and help shape Uber's future.”— Praveen Neppalli Naga, CTO of Uber
Greg Brockman, OpenAI's president and co-founder, said bringing ChatGPT Work to tens of thousands of Uber employees is a step toward expanding access to frontier AI capabilities and tools.
“Now teams across Uber can tap into our portfolio of frontier models and agents to take on more complex work”— Greg Brockman, President and co-founder of OpenAI
The deployment also fits Uber's push to get more value from its AI spending. In August, Neppalli Naga said the era of "tokenmaxxing," or spending freely on AI, was ending.
OpenAI already works with Uber on customer-facing products, including a driver-facing assistant that offers positioning advice based on live marketplace data and a rider-facing voice feature for booking trips.
Uber and OpenAI said they will share more on adoption, use cases and measurable outcomes as the ChatGPT Work rollout progresses.
