OpenAI now gets most of its revenue from business customers, President Greg Brockman said at a technology conference in Napa, California, on November 4. Brockman credited the launches of GPT-5.6 Sol and ChatGPT Work with helping business sales overtake consumer revenue, marking a shift in the company's sales mix.
Brockman described the first half of 2026 as "pretty rough" for OpenAI. In the first and second quarters, the company struggled to gain ground in AI coding despite having its Codex tool in market.
The third quarter was the turn. Brockman pointed to agentic coding tools, GPT-5.6 Sol and ChatGPT Work as the drivers of what he called a "revenue inflection," with enterprise customers leading the gains.

According to OpenAI's disclosures, the company posted 77% growth in total revenue and 107% growth in enterprise revenue in the third quarter compared with the previous period.
The enterprise milestone arrived ahead of OpenAI's own schedule. In April, OpenAI said business customers accounted for more than 40% of its revenue and that it expected business revenue to match consumer revenue by the end of 2026. Brockman's remarks indicate it has already crossed that line.
The Financial Times reported last month that OpenAI's annualized revenue had reached nearly $50 billion by the end of September.
Brockman also said he believes OpenAI will be ready for a public listing in 2027.

The enterprise push puts OpenAI in direct competition with Anthropic for business budgets. A September analysis by OpenRouter found that spending on the two companies' AI tools was nearly equal among about 120,000 businesses using its platform, after Anthropic accounted for about 75% of that spending at the start of 2026.
