Anthropic launched Personal Finance in Claude on Thursday, a beta feature that lets users connect their bank and card accounts and ask questions about their money in plain language. Access is read-only: Anthropic says Personal Finance can't move, manage, or invest a user's money.

The feature starts rolling out in beta this week to Claude Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the US. Users who see Personal Finance in Claude's sidebar can open it, connect an account, and start asking questions. Anthropic has not announced a separate price; the feature comes with those paid plans.

Account connections run through Plaid. Users sign in to their bank themselves through Plaid, agree to Plaid's terms, and approve read-only access there, and Claude never asks for or sees a bank password. For each connected account, Claude can see the bank's name, the account's name, type, and last four digits, balances and credit limits, and up to two years of transactions.

Key facts

  • 01Anthropic launched Personal Finance in Claude in beta on Nov. 5, 2026, for Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the US.
  • 02Bank and card accounts connect through Plaid with read-only access; Claude cannot move, manage, or invest money.
  • 03Claude can see balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transactions for each connected account.
  • 04Chats inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic's models.
  • 05The feature carries no ads or sponsored recommendations and is not designed to give investment advice.

The core use case in Anthropic's announcement is a question like "Where did my money go this month?" Claude totals spending across connected accounts, sorts it by category, and handles follow-ups such as whether that is more than usual or what is left before payday. In Anthropic's worked example, Claude tallies $4,309.37 in monthly spending, including $1,024.51 on food and drink, and identifies four payments due from checking before the next paycheck.

Claude also flags charges that hit twice, unexpected fees, and bills that have crept up over time. It can answer whether a user is spending more than they make, explain terms like APR, and total the interest paid so far this year. Beyond chat answers, it can build a weekly spending chart, a calendar of upcoming bills, or a dashboard it keeps updating.

Anthropic is drawing firm lines around the product. Personal Finance has no ads or sponsored recommendations, and it doesn't offer credit cards, loans, or savings accounts of its own. Anthropic says the feature isn't designed to give investment advice, and it tells users to ask which transactions are behind a number and to check important figures with their bank.

Conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic's models, according to the company. Anything shared with Claude outside the hub falls under the user's regular privacy settings. Users can unlink an account at any time, after which Claude can no longer see its data.

The launch puts Claude into a category OpenAI entered earlier this year, when it introduced similar personal finance tools for ChatGPT in May. Anthropic has also moved into finance-heavy work in 2026 with Claude for Financial Services and Claude for Legal.

Anthropic calls Personal Finance "a first step." The company says it wants Claude to work alongside licensed professionals and regulated firms, is exploring how to make that possible, and has invited banks, wealth managers, and financial services companies to help shape what comes next.
