The pitch is that the automation shouldn't stop at the transcript.
The company is also testing a Granola-style capture mode that pulls system audio rather than joining the call as a visible bot participant. Callie, the second product, taps Calendly's existing scheduling stack to book meetings, check attendee availability, and surface context from prior conversations. Read AI shipped a similar email-based assistant earlier this year.
Calendly CEO Tope Awotona said the target user is anyone in an outward-facing role — sales, marketing, customer success — whose calendar is essentially a stack of back-to-back meetings. For those users, the transcript itself is table stakes. What matters is whether the next email, the next task in a CRM, and the next follow-up meeting actually get created without human intervention.

Dedicated note-takers Granola, Fireflies, Read AI, Otter, and Fathom have spent the past two years pushing summary quality, integrations, and speaker diarization. On the other flank, horizontal productivity suites Notion, ClickUp, and Wispr have folded note-taking into their broader products, meaning many customers already have a note-taker bundled with tools they pay for.
Calendly's structural advantage is the scheduling graph itself. It knows who is meeting whom, when, how often, and about what — data that a standalone note-taker has to reconstruct from calendar invites and transcripts after the fact. If Callie can turn a summary into a scheduled follow-up in one step, that closes a loop the competition has to open with a chain of integrations.
Privacy is the other pressure point. Otter and Granola have both faced allegations tied to how they record meetings, and enterprise buyers have grown skeptical of bots that quietly persist across an organization's calls. Awotona said Calendly's note-taker announces itself in the chat when it joins, and any participant can ask it to leave. Because it plugs into Calendly's scheduling layer, it can also warn attendees before the meeting begins that the call will be recorded.
Consent-forward defaults matter more than they used to. A patchwork of state wiretap laws in the US, GDPR carve-outs in Europe, and a growing set of enterprise procurement checklists now treat undisclosed AI recording as a hard fail. Announcing the bot in chat is a low bar, but it's the bar buyers are currently checking against.
The open question is whether workflow automation is really where the differentiation compounds. Every note-taker vendor claims post-meeting automation is the next battleground; almost all of them ship a version of it. Turning a summary into a CRM update, a Jira ticket, or a scheduled follow-up requires deep, brittle integrations into whichever tools each customer actually uses, and that surface area grows faster than any single vendor can staff.
For Calendly, the note-taker is less a standalone product than a defensive move. Scheduling is a wedge that the productivity suites have been trying to swallow for years, and every meeting that gets summarized and scheduled inside Notion or ClickUp is a meeting that doesn't need Calendly. Shipping Callie and a first-party note-taker keeps the scheduling relationship intact and extends it into the minutes before and after the call. Whether that's enough to matter against Granola's product velocity or Otter's enterprise footprint is the question the next four quarters will answer.
