Amazon launches five Alexa+ devices led by a $499 Echo Show 16

Amazon unveiled five new Alexa+ devices on Wednesday, October 28, led by the Echo Show 16, a 16-inch smart display priced from $499.99 and open for preorder now. The lineup also includes a next-generation Echo Dot with an on-device AI accelerator, an Echo Studio with a built-in Home Camera, a camera-free Echo Time bedside clock and the Alexa Photo Frame, which Amazon describes as the first photo frame with Alexa built in.

All five devices run the latest version of Alexa, and Amazon is positioning them as hardware for Alexa+, its upgraded assistant. Alexa+ is included with a Prime membership, and some features on the new devices require it. Amazon said hundreds of millions of customers are now using the new Alexa experiences, talking to the assistant two to three times more and asking it to handle more complex tasks.

According to Amazon, the new Alexa holds more natural conversations, reasons more deeply, asks clarifying questions and pulls from more sources to complete multi-step requests. On screened devices like the Echo Show 16, Alexa generates visual content during a conversation instead of displaying a plain transcript.

Those conversations are organized into Cards, which group topics so users can pick up where they left off. Cards can be pinned and browsed in a Card Gallery, and they carry across Echo devices, the Alexa app and Alexa.com.

The Echo Show 16 itself is nearly 40% thinner than its predecessor, with an anodized aluminum frame, 10% more viewing area than the Echo Show 15 and 20% more computing power. The $569.99 Nanomatte version uses anti-glare etching that Amazon says cuts glare by more than 90%. Preorders get $100 off, with shipping later in 2026, and two stands sell separately for $69.99 and $124.99.

The display introduces the Alexa Home Map, a 3D interactive view of connected devices across a home and property, alongside three Screen Styles: Smart Home, Family Organizer and Photos. An upgraded Omnisense sensor fusion system combines temperature sensing and presence detection to control devices such as thermostats and lights.

Its 13-megapixel wide-angle camera has the widest field of view of any Echo Show and extends Visual ID range from 8 feet to up to 17 feet. It is also the first Echo Show with night vision, viewable through Live View in the Alexa app. Audio comes from eight custom micro woofers and two tweeters with Advanced Room Adaptation, and Fire TV is built in with a remote included.

The next-generation Echo Dot, available now for $99.99, adds an AI Accelerator for on-device AI, a built-in smart home hub for compatible devices and an eero Wi-Fi extender covering up to 1,000 square feet. Amazon says it delivers 50% more bass than the previous model. Two Kids editions cost $109.99 and include a year of Amazon Kids+.

Echo Time, available now for $199.99, uses Omnisense sleep sensing to wake users within 10 to 60 minutes of their alarm without a wearable, and carries the National Sleep Foundation's SleepMark.
