Meta is rolling out real-time voice conversations and expressive avatars in its Muse app, starting in the US, the company said in a November 5 announcement. The voice feature, which Meta first previewed at Connect 2026, is now available in the Muse app on mobile, web and Mac.
Starting a conversation takes one tap on the phone icon in the top-right corner of the app. Meta says users can interrupt Muse mid-response instead of waiting for it to finish speaking.
The audio side runs on what Meta calls Muse Realtime Voice technology. Users can pick from hundreds of voices and switch styles at any time. Meta's own examples range from the energy of a New Yorker to the flair of a pirate.
Key facts
- 01Meta began rolling out real-time voice conversations in the Muse app on November 5, 2026.
- 02Voice mode works on mobile, web and Mac, starting in the US only.
- 03Users can choose from hundreds of voices and change styles at any time.
- 04Muse Realtime Avatar adds expressions and gestures, with voice-only, side-by-side and full-screen views.
- 05Voice on AI Glasses and Muse Charm is coming soon, with no date given.
The visual layer is Muse Realtime Avatar, an animated character that reacts while it listens and speaks, using subtle expressions and gestures matched to the tone of the conversation. Meta offers three views: voice only, the avatar next to the chat, or full screen for a face-to-face style exchange.
Meta is also pitching voice as a way to get work done hands-free. Users can say what needs to get done while walking or carrying something, and Muse handles the task in the background while the conversation continues.
The use cases Meta lists are practical ones: brainstorming, planning a trip, rehearsing for a job interview, running through a presentation and talking through a pitch.
The rollout has limits. Voice and avatars are US-only to start, and Meta says voice conversations are coming soon to its AI Glasses and Muse Charm hardware without giving a date. The announcement does not include user counts, latency figures, supported languages or pricing.
