Meta has acquired Conductor, the startup whose app lets developers run a team of AI coding agents in parallel, and Conductor is shutting down its cloud service over the next two weeks. Conductor announced the deal on November 4 in a post titled "Conductor is joining Meta." Neither company disclosed a price or other terms.
The wind-down started the same day. As of November 4, Conductor stopped taking new sign-ups and new users can no longer download the app. The product is now free for existing users: free accounts can no longer upgrade to a pro plan, while current pro users keep their pro features at no charge.
Conductor Cloud goes read-only on Friday, November 13. Users will still be able to read old chats and export their data but cannot send new messages, and active subscribers get a refund. On Friday, November 20, Conductor Cloud shuts down and deletion of user data begins.
Key facts
- 01Conductor announced on November 4, 2026 that it is joining Meta; no price or terms were disclosed.
- 02New sign-ups stopped November 4; Conductor Cloud goes read-only November 13 and shuts down November 20.
- 03Local Conductor keeps getting new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, then winds down.
- 04Conductor raised a $22M Series A from Spark and Matrix in March 2026 and says it is trusted by 100k+ builders.
The local desktop version of Conductor has a longer runway. The company said it will continue to receive new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, when it starts winding down. The team also said it has "big, crazy plans for the next interface" and expects to have something new for users early next year.
Conductor's pitch was orchestration rather than a model of its own. The app creates isolated copies of a codebase, runs an agent in each one, and lets developers review and merge the results. Its homepage says it runs the first-party Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode agents under the hood, and Conductor Cloud moved those agents into isolated cloud sandboxes.
Conductor launched in July 2025 and says it is trusted by more than 100,000 builders. In March 2026 it raised a $22M Series A from Spark and Matrix. The round post, written by Charlie Holtz and Jackson de Campos, said Ilya Sukhar at Matrix led both the seed and Series A and joined the board, with Nabeel Hyatt at Spark, Y Combinator, and founders of Notion and Linear also investing.
That same post said Conductor's user base had grown 10x since January 2026 and that engineers at Google, Meta, HubSpot, Chime, Intercom, Ramp, Datadog, Block, Flexport, Rippling, Amazon and Spotify were using the tool. Meta, in other words, is buying a product some of its own engineers already ran.
Conductor kept expanding through 2026. In April it announced that cmd was joining Conductor, and in September it added sign-in with ChatGPT accounts. The acquisition announcement also addressed user data directly: "We have never sold or trained on Conductor user data, and we still won't."
Conductor's site footer now reads "Conductor from Meta."
