Salesforce is buying Rune Technologies, a Washington, DC-based startup that builds AI software for military logistics, for $375 million in a mix of shares and cash, Resilience Media reported Friday. The deal folds Rune into Missionforce, Salesforce's AI enterprise software line for military and national security customers.
Missionforce has grown 80% year over year since Salesforce launched it in 2025. Kendall Collins, Missionforce's CEO, said the acquisition reflects the company's long-term commitment to offering the leading commercial AI platform for national security.
Rune was founded in 2024 by David Tuttle and Peter Goldsborough. The startup raised $30 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures and IQT, and was last valued at $127 million, according to PitchBook. The reported $375 million price is nearly three times that mark.

Rune's core product is TyrOS, software that tracks inventory and helps soldiers work out what they need and how to move it. Rune won a $99 million Army contract over the summer.
That frontline focus is new ground for Salesforce. The company says its defense work so far has centered on back-office record keeping and strategic planning, and it received a $5.6 billion Army contract last January.
Rune's models cover logistics optimization, supply chain prediction and resource allocation, and are expected to show up across Missionforce modules over the coming quarters. Salesforce has not published a product roadmap, an integration timeline or a closing date for the deal.
Rune is the latest in a run of Salesforce acquisitions. It follows the company's purchase of AI marketing firm Braze last week and AI agent platform Fin for $3.6 billion over the summer.
The deal may also signal more defense M&A, Resilience Media reported, as well-funded defense primes and newer neo-primes look for bolt-on acquisitions while early-stage defense startups struggle to raise growth rounds.
Neither Salesforce nor Rune responded to requests for comment on the report.
